Connect Finaloop to your AI tools

Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI tool to Finaloop through the Finaloop MCP, a secure connection you set up in about 2 minutes, so you can ask about your business in plain English.

About

The Finaloop MCP (Model Context Protocol connector) connects your Finaloop account to AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini so you can work with your books in plain English, the same way you'd ask a teammate.

Applies to: Finaloop Core, InventoryIQ.

Once you're connected, you can:

  • Run your account: create and update invoices, bills, and purchase orders; categorize bills and invoices; and email an invoice to a customer. See What the Finaloop MCP can see and change for the full list.

  • Pull your data: reports, transactions, orders, products, purchase orders, and quantities.

  • Build workflows into and out of Finaloop: a weekly P&L summary posted to Slack, your numbers feeding a forecast, or anything else your tools can do.

  • Ask questions about your financial data or your account, and get a plain-English answer.

This is a beta. It's improving quickly, and what you tell us shapes where it goes next. Let us know what worked, what didn't, and what you wish it could do at [email protected].

Who can connect: in Finaloop, the roles Admin, CFO, Tax CPA / Accountant and Operator / VA - Full access get full access. Operator / VA - Basic access can connect for inventory, bills and invoices only, and Inventory IQ Operator for inventory only. Other roles can't connect. Your company also needs an active subscription or trial.

You can also start from the app: click Ask AI on a page such as Dashboards, Transactions or Orders, then Connect, or open Need help? and click Connect Finaloop MCP. Both open the Connect AI page, where See instructions brings you here.

1. Connect Finaloop to Claude

Claude offers custom connectors on its Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise plans. A Free plan allows one custom connector.

Claude.ai (web)

  1. Go to Customize → Connectors, or open claude.ai/customize/connectors directly.

  2. Click + Add and select Add custom connector. Sign in to Claude first if you're prompted.

Claude's Connectors plus menu showing Browse connectors and Add custom connector.

  3. In the name field, add the nickname you choose to call your Finaloop MCP (for example, My Finaloop MCP).

  4. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  5. Click Continue. Leave the settings Claude detects as they are, click Continue again, then click Add.

Claude's Add custom connector dialog with the name My Finaloop MCP and the address <a href="https://mcp-api.finaloop.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://mcp-api.finaloop.com</a> filled in.

① The name field, ② the remote MCP server URL field, ③ Continue.

  6. If Claude shows that you aren't connected to Finaloop yet, click Connect.

  7. A Finaloop window opens. If you're already logged in to Finaloop in that browser, it connects right away. If not, you'll see the Finaloop sign-up page: click Log in next to Have an account? and use the same email and password (or Continue with Google) you use for the Finaloop app. Don't create a new account.

  8. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials.

Note: On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner first adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors. Members then find it under Customize → Connectors and click Connect.

Claude Desktop (Mac/Windows)

  1. Open the Claude Desktop app and go to Customize → Connectors.

  2. Click + Add and select Add custom connector.

  3. In the name field, add the nickname you choose to call your Finaloop MCP (for example, My Finaloop MCP).

  4. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  5. Click Continue, click Continue again, then click Add.

  6. A sign-in window will open. Log in with the same email and password you use for the Finaloop app.

  7. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials.

Claude Mobile (iOS / Android)

Connectors are shared across your Claude apps: add Finaloop once on claude.ai (or Desktop) and it's available on your phone too.

  1. Add Finaloop using the Claude.ai (web) steps above.

  2. In the Claude mobile app, open a chat and tap the + button, then Connectors.

  3. Make sure your Finaloop connector is turned on. Sign in with your Finaloop account if prompted.

  4. Ask your first question.

Claude Code

Claude Code is the command-line version of Claude, used mostly by developers. If you're not sure, use the Claude.ai (web) steps instead.

  1. In your terminal, run:

claude mcp add --transport http finaloop https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  2. Open Claude Code, type /mcp, select finaloop, and choose Authenticate. Your browser will open: sign in with your Finaloop account.

  3. That's it. /mcp should now show the connector as connected. Ask your first question right in Claude Code.

Let Claude read your books without asking every time

Once connected, open Customize → Connectors, select your Finaloop connector and find Tool permissions. Set the Read-only tools group to Always allow. One setting covers Claude everywhere: web, desktop, and mobile. Claude Code is the exception: it asks in the terminal instead, so choose the don't-ask-again option there for the read tools.

These are the tools that only look things up: your P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, ledger transactions, and the searches behind them. Allowing them once means Claude answers your questions straight away instead of pausing for approval on every step.

Claude's Tool permissions for the Finaloop connector, with the Read-only tools group set to Always allow and the menu open.

① The Read-only tools group, ② Always allow, ③ Needs approval.

Important: Leave every tool that creates, updates, categorizes, matches or sends something, including Send invoice, on Needs approval, so nothing goes out to a customer without you seeing it first.

2. Connect Finaloop to ChatGPT

You add Finaloop to ChatGPT on the web as a custom MCP server, which ChatGPT saves as a plugin. Whether you can add one depends on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings.

  1. Click the + button and select Add custom MCP server.

  2. Enter the following details: - Name: a recognizable name, for example My Finaloop MCP. - Description: optional. - Connection: choose Server URL and paste this address:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  3. Authentication, select OAuth.

  4. Review the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue. ChatGPT shows this standard warning for every custom MCP server; it isn't specific to Finaloop.

  5. Click Create as a plugin.

ChatGPT's Add custom MCP server form with the name, the address <a href="https://mcp-api.finaloop.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://mcp-api.finaloop.com</a>, OAuth selected and the risk checkbox ticked.

① Server URL, ② Authentication set to OAuth, ③ I understand and want to continue, ④ Create as a plugin.

  6. When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, follow the authentication flow and grant ChatGPT permission to access Finaloop. Sign in the same way as in step 7 of the Claude steps.

  7. Open your plugins at chatgpt.com/plugins?view=personal, open your Finaloop plugin, and click + to install it.

  8. Start a new chat, type @ in the message box, select your Finaloop plugin, and ask your question.

ChatGPT asks you to confirm each change Finaloop would make, like creating a bill or sending an invoice, before it runs.

3. Connect Finaloop to Gemini

You can add Finaloop to Gemini as a custom app from the Gemini web app at gemini.google.com. Google limits custom apps to certain accounts, so check you have all of these first:

  • A personal Google Account, and you're 18 or older. Work and school (Google Workspace) accounts can't add custom apps.

  • You're in the US, with Gemini set to English.

  • Keep Activity is turned on in your Gemini settings. Gemini can't connect to apps while it's off.

  1. Go to gemini.google.com and sign in with your personal Google Account.

  2. Open the menu, then go to Settings → Connected Apps. On some accounts it's under Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps.

  3. Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app.

  4. Under Choose setup method, select Cloud MCP.

  5. In the Add a custom app link field, copy and paste this address, and leave Advanced Settings as it is:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  6. Click Next. Gemini shows a notice under About custom connected apps for every custom app that Google hasn't reviewed; it isn't specific to Finaloop.

  7. A sign-in window will open. Use the same email and password you use for the Finaloop app.

  8. Open any chat in Gemini and start asking questions about your financials.

4. Connect other AI tools

Other AI tools that support remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in can connect with the same address, including Cursor, Codex, Perplexity, Raycast and Slack. Add Finaloop as a custom or remote MCP server in that tool, paste https://mcp-api.finaloop.com, and sign in when asked.

Finaloop only accepts sign-ins from AI tools it has approved. If your tool's sign-in fails with an error about the redirect address, email [email protected] with the tool's name and we'll look at adding it.

5. Your first question

Once connected, paste this into any chat to make sure everything works:

Fetch my P&L year-to-date

You'll see your Profit & Loss for the year so far, on your company's accounting method.

Back in the app, the Connect AI page now shows MCP connected, and See AI Tools takes you to starter prompts. For more ideas, see What you can ask the Finaloop MCP.

6. Troubleshooting

Sign-in error?

Make sure you're signing in with the email linked to your active Finaloop account, and that your role can connect (see About). You can check at home.finaloop.com.

Connection not working?

Remove the Finaloop connector in your AI tool's settings, add it again, and restart the app. For more fixes, see AI tools with Finaloop: common issues and fixes.

How do I disconnect?

Remove the Finaloop connector in your AI tool's settings (in Claude, open the connector and click Disconnect). To fully revoke access, email [email protected].
