Connect Finaloop to Your AI Stack

Ask your books anything, in plain English. This guide gets the Finaloop MCP connected in under 2 minutes.

About

The Finaloop MCP connects your Finaloop account to AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT, so you can work with your books in plain English, the same way you'd ask a teammate.

Once you're connected, you can:

  • Run your account - create and update invoices, bills, and purchase orders; categorize bills and invoices; and email an invoice to a customer.

  • Pull your data - reports, transactions, orders, products, purchase orders, and quantities.

  • Build workflows into and out of Finaloop - a weekly P&L summary posted to Slack, your numbers feeding a forecast, or anything else your tools can do.

  • Ask questions - about your financial data or your account, and get a plain-English answer.

This is a beta. It's improving quickly, and what you tell us shapes where it goes next. Let us know what worked, what didn't, and what you wish it could do — email [email protected].

Who can use the MCP? These Finaloop roles can connect: Admin, CFO, Tax CPA / Accountant, and Operator / VA – Full access. Other roles can't use the MCP for now — MCP data isn't scoped by role yet, so roles with limited access are kept off it.

1. Connect Finaloop to Claude

Claude.ai (web)

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors — or open claude.ai/customize/connectors directly.

  2. Click the + and select Add custom connector. Sign in to Claude first if you're prompted.

  3. In the name field, add the nickname you choose to call your Finaloop MCP (e.g., My Finaloop MCP).

  4. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

  5. Click Add.

  6. You'll see a message indicating you aren't yet connected to Finaloop. Click Connect.

  7. Sign in using the same email and password you use for the Finaloop app.

  8. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan? An owner first adds the connector under Organization settings > Connectors; members then enable it under Customize > Connectors.

Claude Desktop (Mac/Windows)

How to connect

  1. Open the Claude Desktop app and go to Customize > Connectors.

  2. Click the + and select Add custom connector.

  3. In the name field, add the nickname you choose to call your Finaloop MCP (e.g., My Finaloop MCP).

  4. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address:

    https://mcp-api.finaloop.com

    Then click Add.

  5. A sign-in window will open. Use the same email and password you use for the Finaloop app.

  6. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials.

Claude Mobile (iOS / Android)

How to connect

Connectors are shared across your Claude apps — add Finaloop once on claude.ai (or Desktop) and it's available on your phone too.

  1. Add Finaloop using the Claude.ai (web) steps above.

  2. In the Claude mobile app, open a chat and tap the + button, then Connectors.

  3. Make sure Finaloop is turned on. Sign in with your Finaloop account if prompted.

  4. Ask your first question.

Claude Code

How to connect

Claude Code is the command-line version of Claude, used mostly by developers. If you're not sure, use the Claude.ai tab instead.

  1. In your terminal, run:

claude mcp add --transport http finaloop https://mcp-api.finaloop.com
  2. Open Claude Code, type /mcp, select finaloop, and choose Authenticate. Your browser will open — sign in with your Finaloop account.

  3. That's it — /mcp should now show finaloop as connected. Ask your first question right in Claude Code.

Recommended: Let Claude read your books without asking every time

Once connected, open Customize > Connectors > Finaloop and find Tool permissions. Set the Read-only tools group to Always allow. One setting covers Claude everywhere — web, desktop, and mobile. Claude Code is the exception: it asks in the terminal instead, so choose the don't-ask-again option there for the read tools.

These are the tools that only look things up — your P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, ledger transactions, and the searches behind them. Allowing them once means Claude answers your questions straight away instead of pausing for approval on every step. Leave every tool that creates, updates, categorizes, or sends something — including Send invoice — set to ask every time, so nothing goes out to a customer without you seeing it first.

2. Connect Finaloop to ChatGPT

You can connect Finaloop to ChatGPT on paid plans (Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise). Availability depends on your plan and workspace settings.

  1. Click the Settings icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Open Apps (on some accounts Apps & Connectors) > Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On some accounts the toggle is under Security and login.

  3. Back in Apps, click Create to add a new app.

  4. Enter the following details:

    1. Name – A recognizable name for your server (e.g., My Finaloop MCP)

    2. Description – Optional brief detail of what the server does.

    3. MCP Server URL – copy and paste this URL:

      https://mcp-api.finaloop.com
    4. Authentication – Select OAuth

  5. If ChatGPT shows Scan Tools, click it, complete authentication if prompted, and wait for the scan to finish before clicking Create.

  6. Check the box indicating you want to continue and click Create.

Note: ChatGPT shows this standard warning for every custom MCP server — it appears for any connector you add this way and isn't specific to Finaloop.

  7. Follow the authentication flow and grant ChatGPT permission to access Finaloop.

  8. Open any chat in ChatGPT and start asking questions about your financials. If you don't see Finaloop, open the + menu in the message composer, choose Developer mode, and enable your Finaloop app.

3. Your first question

Once connected, paste this into any chat to make sure everything works:

"Fetch my P&L Year-to-date"

4. Troubleshooting
