Dashboard Peer Benchmark FAQ

Written by Emily Burrows

About

Benchmark your sales performance directly from the Dashboard against businesses with similar annual revenue or businesses within your industry.

Whether you're outperforming your peers or spotting new opportunities, Benchmark gives your numbers valuable context, not just totals.

1. How is my company's category determined?

We automatically assign a category based on the products your company sells. We analyze your most popular products and determine whether they clearly match one of our supported categories.

If there isn't a strong enough match, we don't assign a category. Instead, you'll be benchmarked against companies with similar annual sales.

2. Why doesn't my company have a category?

Not every company can be confidently assigned to a single category.

If we can't confidently determine a category based on your most popular products, we simply don't assign one. This does not limit the feature. You can still compare yourself against any available category.

By default, companies without a category are benchmarked against companies with similar annual sales across all categories.

3. When I compare myself to a category, am I compared to companies of a similar size?

Yes. Benchmark groups are based on both the selected category and company size (annual sales). For most categories we split companies into two revenue groups, so a $10M business won't be benchmarked against $700K businesses.

4. How are benchmark values calculated?

For each benchmark group, we identify the relevant companies (same category and similar company size, or similar company size only).

We calculate the selected metric for every company for each supported date preset, then use the median value across all companies as the benchmark. Using the median makes the benchmark more representative and less sensitive to outliers.

5. Can we request additional benchmarks?

Absolutely. The underlying infrastructure was built to support many more metrics and additional areas across the product.

If you have ideas for benchmarks you'd like to see, please share it with the support team.

6. Why don't I see Benchmark for my custom date range?

Benchmark is shown only when both the selected period and the comparison period (when applicable) use supported date presets.

If you select custom dates, benchmark data won't be available. This is expected behavior.

7. Can I compare myself to a different category even if another category was assigned to my company?

Yes.The assigned category is simply the default recommendation. You can compare yourselves against any available category or company size group.
