Connect Margins to Your AI Chat

Ask your store's financials anything, in plain English. This guide gets our MCP connected in under 2 minutes.

Connect Margins to your favorite chat like Claude or ChatGPT and ask about your sales, margins, cash, expenses, and inventory the same way you'd ask a teammate. Your chat will be able to read your financial data and answer in plain English. It can never change your books.


1. Connect Margins to Claude

Claude.ai (web)

  1. Go to Claude's connector settings at claude.ai/customize/connectors.

    Click the + and then Add custom connector button. The box below will appear. Sign in to Claude first if you're prompted.

  2. In the name field: Add the nickname you choose to call your Margins MCP

  3. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address:

    https://mcp.finaloop.com

  4. You'll see a message indicating you aren't yet connected to Margins. Click Connect.

  5. Sign in using the same email and password you use for the Margins app.

  6. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials.


Claude Desktop (Mac/Windows)

How to connect

  1. Open the Claude Desktop app. Click your profile icon in the top right corner, then select Settings.

  2. In the settings sidebar, click Connectors, then click Add custom connector.

  3. In the remote MCP server URL field, copy and paste this address: https://mcp.finaloop.com. Then click Add.

  4. A sign-in window will open. Use the same email and password you use for the Margins app.

  5. Open any chat in Claude and start asking questions about your financials


Claude Mobile (iOS / Android)

How to connect

  1. Tap the menu icon in the top left corner of the app.

  2. Tap Settings, then tap Connectors.

  3. Tap Add custom connector and paste:

    https://mcp.finaloop.com
  4. Tap Add.

  5. Sign in with your Margins account when the window opens.

  6. Start a new chat and ask your first question.


Claude Code

How to connect

Claude Code is the command-line version of Claude, used mostly by developers. If you're not sure, use the Claude.ai tab instead.

  1. In your terminal, run:

    claude mcp add --transport http margins https://mcp.finaloop.com

  2. Sign in with your Margins account when the browser opens.

  3. Type /mcp inside Claude Code to confirm the connection.


2. Connect Margins to ChatGPT

You can connect Margins to ChatGPT if you have a paid plan.

  1. In ChatGPT, navigate to Apps.

  2. Click on Settings icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  3. Click Advanced settings and enable the Developer mode.

  4. Click Back to return to the Apps page and click Create app.

    Note: If you do not see a Create app option, custom MCP servers may not yet be available on your ChatGPT account.

  5. Enter the following details:

    1. Name – A recognizable name for your server (e.g., My Margins MCP)

    2. Description - Optional brief detail of what the server does.

    3. MCP Server URL – copy and paste this URL:

      https://mcp.finaloop.com
    4. Authentication – Select OAuth

  6. Check the box indicating you want to continue and click Create.

  7. Follow the authentication flow and grant ChatGPT permission to access Margins.

  8. Open any chat in ChatGPT and start asking questions about your financials.


3. Your first question

Once connected, paste this into any chat to verify the connection and explore what's available:

"List the available Margins datasets and provide an overview of what I can learn and analyze using the MCP. Include a few example questions I can ask."


4. Troubleshooting

Sign-in error? Make sure you're signing in with the email linked to your active Margins account. You can check at margins.finaloop.com. Still stuck? Email [email protected].

Connection not working? Remove the Margins connector in settings, add it again, and restart the app. Still stuck? Email [email protected].

How do I disconnect? Remove the Margins connector in your AI app's settings. To fully revoke access, email [email protected].
